Established in 1931 by Robert M. Shipley, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad, CA, is the world’s leading authority and educator on diamonds, colored stones and pearls.
Visitors to the GIA headquarters have an opportunity to learn about the Institute’s world-renowned educational programs, explore gem and jewelry exhibits, visit the Richard T. Liddicoat Gemological Library & Information Center and see the Tower of Brilliance; the world’s largest crystal octahedron.
The center is dedicated to educating, researching and understanding gemstones, and protecting potential jewelry buyers by setting quality standards on a global level.
